Ethan Coen
Ethan Coen, a graduate of Princeton University, co-writes and produces his brother Joel’s films. In 1984, Blood Simple won the Grand Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. They went on to make Arizona Junior and Miller’s Crossing, but it was Barton Fink, in 1991, that won them the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Initially, Joel was the sole director, with Ethan working alongside his brother on the writing and production. This model gave rise to The Hudsucker Proxy, Fargo, The Big Lebowski and O’Brother. Ethan is credited as co-director on their next film, Ladykillers. Five hits followed, from No Country for Old Men to Hail César! In 2022, Ethan Coen directed a documentary on his own, Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind. Drive-away Dolls is his first solo feature film.
