Early 00s, in the seaside neighborhood of Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, nicknamed Little Odessa, a cold-blooded hitman returns to the place where he grew up—and left after he had killed its mafia boss—for a contract and accepts to visit his estranged family.

James Gray is an American film director and screenwriter who made his feature debut with Little Odessa in 1994, which won the Silver Lion at the Venice International Film Festival. Since then, he has directed several critically acclaimed films, five of which have competed for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival: The Yard (2000), We Own the Night (2007), Two Lovers (2008), The Immigrant (2013), and Armageddon Time (2022).
