Synopsis

13-year-old Tielle's sensitive and powerful resistance to the system that oppresses her and all women.

Aware that the future does not hold many options for her in a riverside community on Marajó Island, 13-year-old Marcielle decides to confront the violent machinery that governs her family and the women in her community.

A co-production by Walter Salles and the Dardenne brothers, awarded with the Best Director prize at the Venice Film Festival.

In 2007, Marianna Brennand directed a documentary titled O Coco, a Roda, o Pnêu e o Farol, which delves into the rich musical heritage of coco de roda in Olinda, located in the state of Pernambuco. After earning a degree in film from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), she returned to Brazil to create a documentary about her great-uncle Francisco, a renowned Brazilian ceramicist. Based on his personal diaries, Francisco Brennand won both Best Brazilian Documentary and Best Brazilian Film at the São Paulo International Film Festival in 2012. Manas is her debut feature-length fiction film.
