We welcomed Noémie Merlant in 2020 and on Wednesday 6 November we are delighted to present her second film: The Balconettes (Les Femmes au Balcon – FR OV EN subt. – Ciné Utopia, 8pm). This time the actress-director ventures into a satirical revenge movie. An exhilarating exercise in which she excels alongside Swiss actress Souheila Yacoub (Climax, Dune) and Sanda Codreanu. A true horrific comedy at the crossroads of genres, the film was presented at the midnight screening at Cannes in 2024.
As a heat wave brings a Marseille neighbourhood to the boil, three roommates gleefully meddle in the lives of their neighbour from their balcony. Until a late night drink turns into a bloody affair.

The first Wednesday of every month, LuxFilmLab – a joint initiative by Luxembourg City Film Festival and Kinepolis – highlights one feature film, chosen in cooperation by LuxFilmFest’s team and the Kinepolis programme team. A member of the Festival programming team introduces the special LuxFilmLab screenings, with the aim of supporting films whose release dates didn’t allow for them to be selected for the Festival itself but whose artistic qualities would very likely have led to their inclusion in the LuxFilmFest line-up.
