Einfach Nina
Synopsis
Today is the big day for Nina. The day she stops hiding and tells everybody she no longer identifies with Niklas and will never be a boy again. Nina doesn’t know that this decision will profoundly shake her family, the neighborhood, and the well-trimmed gardens of their perfect suburb.
By turns extremely moving and funny, Karin Heberlein’s second feature tackles a subject that has yet to be tackled in the cinema and is a good complement to Sébastien Lifshitz’s documentary Petite Fille (2020). The performers are wildly accurate, providing a gentle, sympathetic approach to the theme of identity and gender transition.
