Andrea Arnold, acclaimed at multiple festivals (Oscar for Best Short Film in 2003, three Jury Prizes at Cannes in 2006, 2009 and 2016), returns to fiction with her new feature film “Bird.

For her sixth film, the British director and screenwriter, who has previously worked on TV series (Big Little Lies) and documentaries (Cow), comes back to her favourite themes, focusing on teenagers in constant search of escape and identity, set in her home town of Kent.

Bailey is 12 years old who wishes to escape. She currently lives with her brother and immature father. When her father tells her that he’s getting married to his girlfriend he’s just met, she decides to leave and take care of herselve. Wandering, she meets Bird, a harmless free-spirited outsider who is as surprising as he is inspiring. Quickly they become friends.

About LuxFilmLab :

The first Wednesday of every month, LuxFilmLab – a joint initiative by Luxembourg City Film Festival and Kinepolis – highlights one feature film, chosen in cooperation by LuxFilmFest’s team and the Kinepolis programme team. A member of the Festival programming team introduces the special LuxFilmLab screenings, with the aim of supporting films whose release dates didn’t allow for them to be selected for the Festival itself but whose artistic qualities would very likely have led to their inclusion in the LuxFilmFest line-up.

*LuxFilmFest isn’t involved in the commercial aspects of these screenings. Access to the screenings and ticket prices are set by Kinepolis.
