Synopsis

An unsettling murder mystery informed by AI

Following the mysterious death of factory worker Dorem Clery, Werner Herzog arrives to investigate the case. Yet the circumstances of this ‘whodunit’ setup are not what they seem and give way to an existential meditation on the relationship between technology and creativity.

About a Hero is a highly experimental approach to filmmaking which, in blurring the boundary between narrative fiction and documentary, probes the relationship between artificial intelligence and artistic creation. With a script generated by an AI model trained on Herzog’s filmography, this is a provocative examination into the nature of authorship and truth in the age of artificial intelligence.
