A film that unravels like an enigma, revealing its secrets – or at least the questions that haunt it – only at the finish, leaving plenty of time for the viewers to marvel at the spectacular movements of rocks and minerals, and to observe the splendor, as well as the desolation, of human constructions.

A versatile filmmaker, Victor Kossakovsky was born in Leningrad in 1961. Trained at the legendary Saint Petersburg Documentary Film Studio as cameraman, assistant director, and editor, he has been developing a body of work as a portraitist since 1989, culminating in Belovy (1993) and Sviato (2005). He tried his hand at the absurd human comedy in Silence! (2003) before his cinema took on a new depth and a global turn with ¡Vivan las antípodas! (2011), confirmed since by Aquarela (2018), and more recently by Architecton.
