For the past 20 years, Alex Jaromin has been living in Athens with his mother under an assumed name as part of the BKA witness protection programme. Following his mother’s death, Alex discovers that the deaths of his father and sister in 2003 were not, as he had assumed, the work of Serbian nationalists. His search for the truth reveals, that the German government had commissioned his father to travel to Baghdad and bring back a key witness – with the aim of preventing the impending US decision to instigate the Iraq War, based on information from the BND informant, “Curveball”. Alex’s research stirs up a storm and puts his own life at risk when he discovers that, several of those involved – now high-ranking professionals – appear to have been involved in his father’s assassination.
