Synopsis

A piercing diatribe from Radu Jude on contemporary Romania

Orsolya works as a judicial officer in Cluj, the largest city in Transylvania — a region of Romania that once belonged to Hungary, and where the population speaks both languages. One day, she needs to evict an elderly gentleman, a former athlete, who has found refuge in the basement of a building. Nothing goes as planned, and Orsolya finds herself plunged into an existential crisis.

Just two years after the caustic dark comedy Don’t Wait Too Long for the End of the World, the Romanian prodigy returns with a new and unclassifiable film which portrays contemporary Romania through the heroine’s introspective crisis. Devoid of all propriety, it offers a look into the ravages of globalization and the conventional thinking of the affluent.
