One in a Million
Synopsis
Two teenagers in different countries connect through social media over a shared passion for gymnastics. Whitney is a professional American gymnast who shares videos of her life with her large YouTube following, while Yara is a shy German high schooler attracted to Whitney’s confidence and determination. Thome follows both girls as they navigate the pressures of adolescence, both on screen and in real life, and discover who they really are.
This sensitive coming-of-age documentary explores loneliness, success, and queer desire. By following both sides of a parasocial relationship, Thome creates an empathetic portrait of youth in the age of Instagram.
