The Blue Caftan (Azraq al-qaftan)
Synopsis
Caftan maker Halim runs a struggling business with his wife Mina. He remains dedicated to sewing by hand, despite the growing popularity of caftans made using industrial techniques. When the couple hire handsome apprentice Youssef to lend them a hand, the young man’s presence and growing involvement with the business and their personal lives turns their relationship upside down.

Maryam Touzani
Born in Tangiers in 1980, Maryam Touzani studied journalism in London before returning to her native Morocco to work, specialising in writing about Maghreb cinema. After she made a couple of short films, Touzani co-wrote and starred in Razzia directed by renowned Moroccan filmmaker Nabil Ayouch. Razzia went on to represent Morocco at the Oscars, as did Touzani’s debut feature film, Adam, which also stars The Blue Caftan’s Lubna Azabal.
